1. Introduction

Croppa ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our Windows desktop application ("Software") and website handle your data.

2. Data Collection & Processing

Croppa is an offline-first application.

  • Video Data: All video processing — silence detection, encoding, and export — happens locally on your device. Your video files are never sent to our servers or any third-party cloud service.
  • Licence Verification: When you activate a Pro licence, Croppa sends your licence key to Gumroad's API to verify its validity. This is a one-time request. No video data is transmitted.
  • Usage Data: We do not collect analytics or usage data from the desktop application. The app does not report back any information about your files, settings, or activity.

3. Third-Party Services

Our website (getcroppa.com) and the licence system use the following third-party services:

  • Gumroad: We use Gumroad for payment processing and licence key management. When you purchase Croppa Pro, your payment information is handled entirely by Gumroad. We do not see or store your credit card details. Gumroad verifies your licence key when you activate the software.
  • Google Analytics: Our website may use Google Analytics to track aggregate website visits. This is limited to the website and does not extend to the desktop application.
  • Cloudflare: If you choose to enable the optional remote access tunnel feature, Croppa uses Cloudflare's free tunnel service (cloudflared) to create a temporary public URL. You must opt in to start a tunnel, and you can stop it at any time. No data is routed through Cloudflare unless the tunnel is explicitly enabled.

4. Licence File Storage

Upon successful licence activation, Croppa saves a licence file at %APPDATA%\Croppa\license.dat. This file contains your licence key, an HMAC token, and a hardware fingerprint (derived from your Windows MachineGuid, drive serial number, and MAC address). This information is stored locally on your machine only and is never transmitted to us.
